The authors have described a fatal complication which occurred after a cervical subarachnoid block with phenol in glycerine. As a result of this experience they advocate the use of a dose of phenol of not more than 2 ml, which is smaller than that sometimes recommended, and also emphasise most strongly the importance of careful positioning of the patient.

This study investigated the effects that 4-nonylphenol (NP) has on CYP1A1 expression in Hepa-1c1c7 cell cultures. NP alone did not affect CYP1A1-specific 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity. In contrast, the 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)-inducible EROD activities were markedly reduced upon concomitant treatment with TCDD and NP in a dose-dependent manner.
Abstract Reaction of p-cresol with the title catalyst (10 mol %), cesium carbonate, and bromobenzene at 90°C gave 2,2′-dihydroxybiphenyl (51-67%). The reaction was extended to other phenols to provide the corresponding o,o′-dimers (15-59%).

Permittivity e’ and dielectric loss e” of novolac have been determined in the temperature interval from -150 to 150°C and in the frequency interval from 10 2.5 to 10 6 Hz. Novolac exhibits a main and a secondary relaxation process. For the main relaxation a master curve of e” was calculated, the shape of which was described by the Havriliak-Negami function (HN).
